Tenant Rights have been a debated topic for nearly a century and have long been a cloudy issue. For many years there were no protections in place for tenants which allowed some landlords to take advantage of them.

As society progressed, various federal and state regulations were put in place to protect tenants and allow safe housing to be available. But not knowing these rights leaves you vulnerable and by survey, 76% of tenants say they are not familiar with the basics of Tenant Rights.

Fair Housing Act

In 1968 the Fair Housing Act was introduced by the Federal Government which enacted protection against discrimination the rental of housing based on race, national origin, religion, or sex. In effect, private and public housing discrimination became illegal.
